Epilepsy cannot completely “cured” even with brain surgery, or the VNS, RNS, DBS implants, AEDs, herbal therapy… Even if a person has brain surgery and can stop taking anti-seizure medications there will still be some effects from having it and their seizure threshold will never be as high as somebody’s who never had Epilepsy and the seizures can even return years later. 

I outgrew Absence Seizures as 12 years old then went 25 years seizure free until head trauma caused me to have a Tonic Clonic Seizure at 37 and Complex Partial Seizures in my 40s. there was a connection between the two, the head trauma caused a lesion in the “disorganized” brain tissue in my right temporal lobe which it what caused me to have the Absence Seizures when I was young and the scar tissue that formed as the lesion healed became a Focal Point for seizures causing my 2nd round              of epilepsy.  All of which was figured out after I had a right temporal        lobectomy getting me seizure free while getting to lower the                 dosage of one of my three medicines.
